About Dr. Ali Abbas
Dr. Abbas is a Board-Certified Gastroenterologist, Interventional and bariatric endoscopist. Dr. Abbas is one among handful of fellowship-trained bariatric/advanced endoscopists nationwide who graduated from Harvard Medical School’s Brigham & Women’s Hospital. He completed his Gastroenterology fellowship at the University of South Florida after finishing Internal Medicine residency at the University of Florida-Gainesville. He earned his medical degree from Al-Kindy College of Medicine and MPH in Epidemiology from Tulane University as a Fulbright Scholar.
From 2020-2022, Dr. Abbas was an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Surgery at the University of South Florida and the Director of Bariatric Endoscopy service. Dr. Abbas introduced several cutting-edge advanced endoscopy procedures to the USF-TGH system. Additionally, Dr. Abbas had one of the highest adenoma detection rates (68% and 54% for male and female patients respectively) for screening colonoscopy in USF-TGH system. He is providing office visits and endoscopies in our new Wesley Chapel practice and hospital GI consults & procedures at Advent Health Wesley Chapel and the new BayCare Hospital Wesley Chapel.
